Former governor of Taraba State, Jolly Nyame, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying he and his people have not been treated fairly within the party.
NewsWatch Nigeria reports that he made the announcement after a meeting with his supporters following a Federal High Court ruling in Jalingo.
Nyame said he had discussions with stakeholders from Zing Local Government Area before taking the decision. He explained that he is moving on to work with others who share the goal of developing the area and giving the people a stronger voice.
He said his years of loyalty to the APC did not bring fair attention or proper benefits to his community. According to him, the people he represents have continued to face neglect in political matters and have not been well included in government affairs.
He also spoke about his role as a leader in the Yorro community, which includes groups like the Mumuye, Yandan, and Yorti, saying that lack of respect and attention to his position has been part of his frustration.
Nyame added that many people from his area have long felt pushed aside in politics and have not had strong representation in decision-making processes.
He further said there has been growing pressure for him to contest in the 2027 general elections, but noted that at his age, running for office is not compulsory. He explained that the call from his supporters is driven by their belief that their voices have been ignored for too long.
He warned that ignoring the concerns of the people could make their situation worse and urged his supporters to remain united as he continues what he described as a struggle for better treatment of his community.
