A disturbing video showing alleged illegal miners uncovering human remains at a site believed to be an old cemetery has sparked emotional reactions on social media.
According to reports accompanying the footage, the galamsey operators discovered several human bones and skulls while preparing the land for mining activities. The remains were seen scattered at the site as the miners continued their work.
In the video, some of the operators could be heard reflecting on the discovery and warning people to live meaningful lives, noting that death is the inevitable end of every human being.
They also acknowledged that disturbing the remains of the dead was not a good thing, but claimed they had to proceed because of the mining activity they were carrying out at the location.
The discovery has raised concerns among social media users, with many questioning how a site believed to contain human remains could be targeted for mining activities without proper checks or approval.
Others have called for respect for burial grounds and stronger measures to protect areas with historical and cultural significance from destruction.
Illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, has remained a major environmental and social concern in Ghana, with authorities continuing efforts to clamp down on activities that threaten lands, water bodies, and communities.
The exact location of the alleged cemetery and whether authorities have been informed about the discovery remain unclear.
