A female student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has shared her experience after allegedly being prevented from entering an examination hall because of the outfit she was wearing.
According to the student, a security officer stopped her from accessing the exam venue, claiming that her exposed arms were inappropriate and could “harass” male students.
The student explained that she was ready to write her examination but was delayed at the entrance due to concerns raised over her dressing.
In order to gain access to the hall, she reportedly had to borrow a jeans jacket from a passerby and wear it before she was eventually allowed to enter and sit for the exam.
The incident has sparked reactions online, with some people questioning whether the security officer’s decision was appropriate, while others have supported the need for students to adhere to institutional dress codes.
The student’s account has also reignited discussions about dress regulations in tertiary institutions and how such rules should be applied, especially during important academic activities like examinations.
Questions remain over whether KNUST has a specific policy regarding the type of clothing allowed in examination halls and whether the matter has been officially reported to university authorities.
