Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, has attended a three-day Fidau prayer for the 37 suspected illegal miners who died while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
TVC News reported that the deaths occurred after the suspects were arrested during enforcement operations against illegal mining activities in the state, with authorities launching investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The incident sparked protests in Minna, prompting the Niger State Government to impose a 24-hour curfew in the state capital following heightened tension over the deaths.
The Federal Government has also ordered a full and transparent investigation into the incident, while the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, constituted a 10-member independent committee to investigate the reported deaths and suspended NSCDC officers linked to the incident.

Speaking at the Fidau prayer, Governor Bago announced that the curfew would be lifted tomorrow morning, allowing residents to resume their normal activities.
The governor had earlier said the exact cause of the deaths had not been established, with forensic examinations and autopsies expected to help determine what happened.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has also assured that the deaths would be thoroughly investigated, while the police have taken charge of the scene to preserve evidence.
