The Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, with a renewed emphasis on sports development as a platform for unity, peace, and national progress.
The governor made this known through his deputy, Murtala Sule Garo, while delivering remarks as Special Guest of Honour at the closing ceremony of the Northwest Veterans All-Stars Renewed Hope Novelty Football Match held on Saturday at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, Kano.
The event was organised in honour of the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, , and brought together veterans, sports enthusiasts, and stakeholders from across the region.
Mr Yusuf commended the organisers, participating teams, supporters, and other stakeholders for the successful conduct of the match, describing it as a platform that reinforces unity and mutual understanding.
He noted that football remains a powerful tool for fostering cohesion among people irrespective of ethnic, religious, political, or social differences, adding that the spirit of teamwork and sportsmanship displayed during the match reflects values needed for national development.
The governor also paid tribute to sports veterans and other distinguished personalities for their continued contributions to nation-building, both during and after active service, describing them as role models for younger generations.
He explained that the Renewed Hope initiative is designed to promote youth engagement, healthy living, social interaction, and peaceful coexistence as key drivers of development.
Speaking at the event, Mr Garo said sports initiatives of this nature help strengthen unity and community development.
“Events like this encourage youth engagement, healthy living, social interaction, and peaceful coexistence, which are essential ingredients for national development,” he said.
He commended the players for their performance, noting that all participants were winners for demonstrating courage, passion, and sportsmanship.
“To the organizers, thank you for creating a platform that promotes unity and community development through sports,” Mr Garo added.
He urged participants and stakeholders to continue to uphold the values of peace, tolerance, and unity, stressing the need to use sports as a vehicle for inspiring hope, empowering youths, and strengthening national cohesion.
