Lagos State Deputy Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the 2027 gubernatorial election, Obafemi Hamzat, has continued consultations with religious leaders across the state, meeting with the Territorial Chairman of The Apostolic Church Nigeria (TACN), LAWMNA Territory, Pastor M.O. Ogunibe.
Hamzat disclosed the meeting in a post via social media on Monday, September 21, saying the engagement focused on issues affecting families and communities across Lagos.
He said the consultations were aimed at understanding the expectations of residents and identifying ways government and communities could work together to address their concerns.
“In continuation of my consultations across Lagos, I met with Pastor M.O. Ogunibe, the 7th Territorial Chairman of The Apostolic Church Nigeria, LAWMNA Territory,” Hamzat said.
“Our discussion touched on the realities facing families and communities across Lagos and the need for leadership that stays close to the people,” he added.
Hamzat said the consultations were important because they provided an opportunity to better understand the needs of Lagos residents.

“These consultations are very important because they help us better understand what our people expect and how we can do more together,” he said.
The meeting comes weeks after Hamzat represented Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the 50th Anniversary of The Apostolic Church Nigeria (TACN), LAWMNA Territory Annual International Convention at Olorunda-Ketu, Lagos.
Speaking at the event on Wednesday, August 5, Hamzat said the Lagos State Government had maintained a collaborative relationship with the church, particularly in addressing infrastructure and community needs.
He cited the construction of a pedestrian bridge in front of the church as an example of how the government had responded to concerns raised by the church and residents.
“The first thing is to thank God for TACN LAWMNA Territory. This is the 50th anniversary of this. So, you know, it’s only with the grace of God that you are able to sustain something like that,” Hamzat said.
On the government’s relationship with religious organisations, he said, “we’ve been collaborating. That’s not the issue; the issue is to make sure that we do it better, scale it up.”
Hamzat also said religious institutions could play a significant role in supporting government efforts to empower citizens and strengthen families.
“As we empower citizens, we will use the religious houses, our churches, because they know the people better than us,” he said.
He added that government would continue to work with religious organisations to promote responsible citizenship and stronger families.
“And as such, we work with our churches to make sure that we move our people forward and also molding families, the churches can do better than government,” Hamzat said.
He stressed the need for continued collaboration between government and religious bodies, saying, “we work in collaboration with our churches, religious houses to make sure that we understand how to mold our citizens so that we can be God-fearing and we can be better citizens.”
