“He put my life…” — Woman reveals what her father did after her divorce

A woman has touched hearts online after sharing an emotional account of how her father stood by her when she left her marriage, saying his unwavering love and support helped her recover emotionally and rebuild her life.

In the viral video, she described how her father welcomed her home without judgement, cared for her and her son, and prioritised her safety and happiness over public opinion, despite the impact her failed marriage had on the family’s reputation.

Father welcomed her home with love

According to the woman, she initially stayed with a friend for a few days after leaving her marriage before her favourite uncle arrived with a friend to take her home at her father’s request.

She recalled that when she arrived home, her father immediately hugged her and kissed her on the forehead.

She said that for several days afterwards, until she became busy again, her father prepared breakfast almost every morning and brought it to her room.

He would place the meal on her bed and take her son away to his own room so she could eat quietly and have some time alone.

She added that her father regularly sat beside her bed to check on her emotional wellbeing.

He would tell me things like, ‘I hope you’re not feeling sad. I hope you don’t think your life is over.’”

She explained that although she did not cry or openly show signs of sadness, her father appeared deeply worried that she could fall into depression or even harm herself.

Says father’s support protected her from the struggles of single parenthood

The woman said listening to Love of My Life by Sabi Henry reminded her of her father and made her reflect on the role he played during one of the most difficult periods of her life.

She credited him for giving her the freedom to rebuild her life without suffering the emotional, psychological, financial and mental burden many single parents experience.

According to her, her father immediately stepped in and made it clear that she would not face the situation alone.

She admitted that she and her father often disagree because they belong to different generations, describing herself as a “woke woman.”

She said their frequent arguments never changed one fact.

“I will never forget that I owe my life to my father.”

She described him as a man who always taught his children to be content and live within their means.

He would always tell us to be content with what we have. He would teach us to always cut our coats according to our own sizes.”

At the same time, she said he would go to any length to secure a better future for his children.

She remarked that if borrowing money from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) were necessary to send her to Cambridge or Oxford, she believed her father would do it without hesitation.

He chose her happiness over family reputation

The woman revealed that her failed marriage was especially painful for her father because he is well known in their hometown and her family is prominent.

She acknowledged that the divorce was heartbreaking for everyone and dealt a blow to her father’s pride and public reputation.

Despite this, she said he never pressured her to remain in the marriage simply to preserve the family’s image.

Instead, he chose to protect her wellbeing.

He put my happiness first. He put my safety first. He put my life first.”

She added that because of her father’s support, she was able to continue working, raising her child and living freely without constantly being defined by her divorce.

She said many people are surprised when they discover she is a divorced mother because she does not carry herself as someone weighed down by life’s challenges.

If you ever look at me and think that way, I need you to know that I owe it all to my father.”

Says she works hard to make her father proud

The woman said she deliberately works hard to build a meaningful life because she wants to make her father proud.

She described him as someone who constantly supports and celebrates her achievements.

According to her, she is careful not to disappoint him because of everything he sacrificed for her.

She admitted that the end of her marriage was a tragic experience for him and left what she described as a stain on the family’s reputation.

Nevertheless, she said her father never placed societal expectations above her wellbeing.

He didn’t try to force me to stay. He didn’t try to make me see reasons why I should actually keep up with whatever was happening in my marriage just to make sure that the family kept a perfect image outside.”

She added that although her family is “far from perfect,” she has no doubt that her father deeply loves her and her siblings.

Childhood memories of a loving father

The woman also shared memories from her childhood, saying her father’s affection extended to all his children.

She recalled how her younger brother was warmly welcomed home after completing his SS3 final examinations before proceeding to university.

According to her, everyone rushed to greet him, while their father hugged him and kissed him on the forehead.

The moment reminded her of their childhood, when her father, before retiring from active service, would return home from work and all the children would run to his car.

She said he would kiss each child on both cheeks every time he arrived home.

Although those routines became less frequent as they grew older, she said he still occasionally gives them forehead kisses.

The woman concluded by saying that despite their disagreements, one thing has never changed.

My dad loves me. My dad loves my siblings and I.”

She explained that hearing Sabi Henry’s song made her reflect on her father’s unconditional love and inspired her to publicly express her gratitude for everything he has done for her.
