An 18-year-old house-help, Christabel Issac, has been arraigned before a Life Camp Magistrate’s Court in Abuja over the alleged theft of $1,200.
Issac, a resident of Wamba in Nasarawa State, is facing a charge of theft by servant. She pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to her.
The prosecutor, Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the case was reported in August 2025 by the complainant, Mrs Loveth Ayoade, at the Gwarinpa Police Station. Ayoade resides at Efab Queens Estate in Abuja.
According to the prosecution, the defendant allegedly entered the complainant’s husband’s room and stole $1,200, estimated at about N1.6 million, without consent.
Nwachukwu further alleged that Issac gave $1,000 to one Micheal Genesis and $200 to Rilwan Garuba for conversion into naira.
She told the court that the defendant made a confessional statement during police investigation, adding that N200,000 was recovered from her.
The offence, the prosecutor said, contravenes provisions of the Penal Code.
Presiding Magistrate, Halilu R. Yusuf, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum. He ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provide valid means of identification.
The case was adjourned until June 14 for hearing.
