“I could have landed in the police station” – Businessman raises alarm over ₦350,000 scam plot, shares ordeal

A Nigerian businessman has shared how he narrowly escaped being dragged into a ₦350,000 scam after a suspicious transaction raised red flags.

According to him, a man had reached out on social media to place a large order for clothes, selecting several items and insisting the total be adjusted to ₦350,000.

“If I had done that waybill, who knows, I would have landed in the police station by now,” he said.

He explained that after receiving the payment in the evening, the customer suddenly demanded immediate delivery to Sapele, which he declined due to distance and timing.

Things took a shocking turn the next day when a woman called him, claiming she was the one who sent the ₦350,000 after being deceived by scammers posing as wig sellers.

“She said, ‘If you know you’re not sending the wig, send back my money.’ That was when I realised they used my account to collect money from her,” he added.

The businessman said the scammers had tricked the woman into paying into his account, then used the same money to attempt to buy goods from him—likely planning to pressure him for a refund and disappear.

Many reactions have followed. “This is a very smart scam 😳” another added, “This could have ruined his business. Thank God for you.”

The incident has sparked warnings among business owners to be extra cautious, as scammers continue to evolve new methods to trap unsuspecting victims.
