A woman has cried out for help after a dispute between her husband and mother during an omugwo visit reportedly left her struggling to cope with her newborn and two-year-old child.
The woman, who shared her experience in a message to “Mummy Ngozi”, said her mother had initially refused to stay with her after the birth of her second child because of the incident involving her husband.
She explained that her mother came for omugwo but had an argument with her husband, during which he allegedly slapped her.
Mother refuses to return for omugwo
According to the woman, her mother subsequently left after spending only two months instead of the expected three months, while her husband did not provide any omugwo items for her.
She said her mother had refused to return because she supported her husband during the disagreement.
The woman said her husband’s mother had also declined to come, leaving her to care for her newborn and two-year-old largely on her own.
She further stated, “This is my 2nd baby and I need her here but she refused to come simple because I supported my husband.”
Woman seeks help as pressure mounts
The mother of two said caring for the children without support had become overwhelming, particularly because her first child requires attention while she cares for the newborn.
She recounted an incident in which her baby cried excessively at night, prompting her husband to complain that the child was disturbing him.
She said, “I have been begging my mom to come and she is wickeding me. I don’t know how to handle all these things alone.”
Her account has sparked discussion about family conflicts, marital support and the challenges new mothers can face when traditional postpartum support breaks down.
