A man has shared how he recovered his stolen phone after spotting it for sale on an online marketplace, only to be accused of stealing the same device from the person selling it.
The man said the phone was stolen from him in the library while he was on campus during an exam week. After reporting the theft, he eventually accepted that he might never see the device again.
However, later that evening, he came across what appeared to be his stolen phone listed for sale online. He decided to contact the seller while pretending to be interested in buying the device.
Man recognised his phone during the meeting
According to the man, he arranged to meet the seller and asked to inspect the phone to confirm that it was working properly.
He said he unlocked the device using his fingerprint before calling his own number to demonstrate that the phone belonged to him. He then put the device in his pocket and began walking away.
The man said the seller immediately started shouting, “You’re stealing my phone!”

Recounting the incident, the man said the irony of being accused of stealing his own phone almost made him laugh.
