Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, on Saturday visited Niger State to assess the security situation following the abduction of worshippers in communities within the Dekara District of Borgu Local Government Area.
Disu also ordered intensified rescue operations and stronger coordination among security agencies to secure the release of the victims and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, on Saturday, August 29, the IGP conveyed the condolences of the Nigeria Police Force to the Niger State Government, affected communities and families of the victims during his visit to the Government House in Minna.
The statement said Disu was received by Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba, who represented Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, alongside the Commissioner for Homeland Security, Maurice Bello Magaji.

It said the IGP assured the state government that “the safe recovery of the abducted persons and the arrest of the perpetrators remain the focus of ongoing operations.”
Disu commended the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, for the command’s response to the incident and timely situation reports.
He also appreciated the state government for supporting the police through the provision of operational vehicles, repairs of Armoured Personnel Carriers and welfare assistance for officers and men.
Addressing officers of the Niger State Police Command, the IGP directed them to sustain intelligence-led and professionally coordinated operations while prioritising the safety of the victims and affected communities.
He further ordered the command to deepen collaboration with other security agencies and strengthen engagement with traditional rulers, religious leaders and communities to improve intelligence gathering and early response.
“The Command was assured of Force Headquarters’ continuing support to strengthen its logistics, mobility, intelligence, training, and operational capacity,” the statement said.
The Deputy Governor, according to the statement, commended Disu for personally visiting the state to assess the security situation and reinforce ongoing rescue efforts.
Garba reiterated the state government’s support for the police and other security agencies in efforts to protect residents, restore peace and secure the release of the abducted persons.
As part of his visit, Disu also met with the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Dr Umar Farouk Bahago, CON, to commiserate with the emirate and strengthen collaboration with traditional institutions on intelligence gathering and community engagement.
