THERE was jubilation in the city of Warri, Delta State as the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC at an emergency meeting on Wednesday in Asaba released the report on the Supreme Court’s ordered delineation of Wards and Units in Warri Federal Constituency.
INEC also created additional Constituencies for the Ijaws and Itsekiris of Warri North, Ijaws and Itsekiris of Warri South-West respectively subject to National Assembly rectification.
This development has put to rest all the struggle for the release of the report, the Urhobos and Ijaws are now in one State Constituency I in Warri South while the Itsekiris are in one State Constituency.
The Resident National Electoral Commissioner, INEC Etekamba Unoren and a Supervising National Electoral Commissioner, INEC were on ground and gave out the result in the emergency meeting which had the Itsekiris, Urhobos and Ijaws in attendance.
A prominent Ijaw leader, Chief Perekeme Odiwari who spoke said that the creation of the new Federal Constituencies in Warri North and Warri South-West will be subject to constitutional amendment.
“But it has been created too. it will go to the National Assembly for Constitutional amendment” he said.
The report showed that Warri North I Itsekiri got 10 wards, Warri North II Ijaw had 10 wards while Warri South-West 2 Itsekiri is 7 wards, Warri South-West I Ijaw coasted home with 13 wards. Warri South has 20 wards created with Urhobo 9 wards, Itsekiris 8 wards and Ijaws 3 wards.
