The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has complied with the judgment of the Supreme Court by updating its official records and restoring the leadership of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, led by former Senate President, David Mark.
Checks on INEC’s website on Thursday showed that the commission had reflected the changes in the party’s leadership structure following the apex court ruling that nullified an earlier order directing the party to maintain the status quo pending the resolution of its internal leadership dispute.
The development is seen as a major victory for the David Mark-led faction of the ADC, which had challenged attempts to alter the party’s leadership arrangement through legal processes.
The Supreme Court had earlier vacated the order that sought to halt the recognition of the party’s current leadership, thereby clearing the way for INEC to officially recognize the executives loyal to Mark.
With the latest update, the electoral body now lists the David Mark-led executives as the authentic national leadership of the party, effectively bringing an end to weeks of uncertainty over the control of the ADC.
