Romano announced the development on X, giving his trademark “here we go” confirmation after the negotiations over the Canadian striker’s move to Spain reached an advanced stage.
“Jonathan David to Atlético Madrid, here we go! Verbal agreement done with Juventus,” Romano wrote.
The deal will see David join Atletico on an initial loan, with the Spanish club securing an option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the loan spell.
Romano added that Atletico’s interest in the 26-year-old forward had been revealed last week and that the move is now set to be completed following the agreement between the clubs.
“Initial loan deal with buy option clause for the Canadian striker who’s set to join Atléti as exclusively revealed last week,” he said.
As part of the agreement, Atletico will take on more than half of David’s salary during his time at the club.
“Atléti will cover more than 50% of the salary,” Romano added.
David joined Juventus after establishing himself as one of Europe’s most prolific forwards during his spell with Lille, where he scored 109 goals in 232 appearances and helped the French club win the Ligue 1 title in the 2020/21 season.
