JUST IN: NDC aspirant withdraws from FCT House of Reps race after Peter Obi’s intervention

Obinna Simon, former AMAC chairmanship candidate in the FCT, has withdrawn from the race for the House of Representatives ticket of the Nigeria Democratic Congress

(NDC) for the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency in the FCT.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Simon said he would no longer participate in the party’s forthcoming primaries after the intervention of Peter Obi, former Anambra governor and the NDC sole presidential aspirant.

“This decision was reached after a heartfelt request and intervention from His Excellency, Mr Peter Obi, whom I hold in high esteem and respect,” he said.

Simon said the withdrawal also followed consultations with supporters, political associates and stakeholders within the party.

“As loyal party members and believers in the collective interest of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), we understand that certain decisions and sacrifices are necessary for the unity, stability, and overall success of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“I sincerely appreciate the immense love, encouragement, and unwavering support shown to me throughout this journey by supporters across the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency and beyond,” he said.

Simon urged his supporters to remain committed to the party and continue mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 elections.

“I therefore urge all my supporters and political associates to remain peaceful, committed, and faithful to the ideals and leadership of the party,” he said.
