The Kaduna State Government has launched the 2026/2027 school enrolment campaign as part of efforts to reduce the number of out-of-school children and improve access to basic education across the state.
The campaign, organised by the Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board, KADSUBEB, on Wednesday in Kaduna, featured a sensitisation walk.
During the walk, government officials engaged parents, guardians and community members on the need to enrol school-age children.
Speaking during the exercise, the Permanent Secretary, Kaduna State Ministry of Information and Culture, Iliya Duniya, described the initiative as a “war against illiteracy” aimed at reaching out-of-school children in every part of the state.
Duniya said the state government had made education free for children and urged parents and guardians to take advantage of the opportunity by enrolling their children when registration commenced.
He said education remained the bedrock of development, adding that investing in children would guarantee a brighter future for Kaduna State and the country.
Also speaking, the Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Uba Sani, Mr Ibrahim Musa, said education was the most effective tool for empowering children, irrespective of their social or economic background.
According to him, public schools in Kaduna State are free, accommodate religious education and provide every child with an opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills for the future.
Musa urged parents not to keep their children out of school, noting that the present administration was committed to giving every child a fair chance through education.
He said his personal journey from a humble background to becoming the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor underscored the transformative power of education.
The Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Mubarak Muhammad, said the enrolment campaign was designed to encourage parents and guardians to register their children for the 2026/2027 academic session.
Muhammad said access to education was a right and not a privilege.
He disclosed that several children voluntarily approached officials during the sensitisation exercise at the Kaduna Central Market, expressing their willingness to return to school.
According to him, the children would be registered and enrolled immediately as part of efforts to reduce the number of out-of-school children in the state.
Muhammad further said the Kaduna State Government had constructed more than 2,000 new classrooms to accommodate the expected increase in enrolment for the new academic session.
He said the expansion of infrastructure reflected Gov. Uba Sani’s commitment to improving access to quality education across the state.
