It was a dramatic atmosphere at the Ante-Chamber, Government House, Kano, on Tuesday, when former Governor of Kano state and immediate-past National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, recognized former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Muhammadu Sanusi 11, as the Emir of Kano.
Ganduje made the declaration during the swearing-in ceremony of Hon. Murtala Sule Garo, as the the new Deputy Governor of Kano state.
Recall the Ganduje had dethroned Muhammadu Sanusi as the Emir of Kano, in 2020, and installed, Emir Aminu Ado Bayero, the first son of the late Emir Abdullahi Ado Bayero to replace him.
However, Governor Abba Yusuf restored Sanusi to the throne on his assumption of office in 2023. However, Ado Bayero has refused to accept his dethronement, and both men had headed to court in contestation over the Emirship.
The suit is still at the Supreme Court.
Therefore, Ganduje’s Tuesday’s acknowledgment of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi 11, as the Emir of Kano therefore came to many as a huge surprise.
Ganduje and Emir Muhammadu Sanusi 11, were sighted at Kano Government House, on Tuesday, openly exchanging pleasantries.
Emir Sanusi and Ganduje were among thousands of people that stormed Kano Government House to witness the swearing-in ceremony of Sule Garo, as the new Deputy Governor of Kano state.
Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, also witnessed the event.
The oath of office was administered by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Dije Abdu Aboki, in the presence of top government officials, lawmakers, traditional rulers, and party stakeholders.
Among dignitaries at the event were former Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekarau and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin.
