A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Ibrahim Ali Amin Little, has become the first governorship aspirant in Nigeria to purchase the party’s nomination form ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mr Little obtained the form at the ADC national headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, formally declaring his intention to contest the Kano State governorship election on the platform of the party.
Speaking shortly after purchasing the form, the former chairman of the All Peoples Party, APP, in Kano expressed confidence in securing both the ADC ticket and victory at the polls in 2027.
He said his decision to join the governorship race was motivated by the need to “rescue Kano State” from what he described as poor leadership and to build a modern and people-centred state.
According to him, his administration would focus on tackling political violence, improving social welfare and reducing poverty across the state.
“My interest is the people of Kano. We must ensure the total eradication of political thuggery, strengthen social welfare and prioritise poverty eradication, alongside the provision of basic amenities, quality education, functional hospitals and adequate water supply. These are the issues that concern me most,” he said.
The governorship hopeful also pledged to prioritise agriculture, youth empowerment, industrial revival and economic growth if elected governor.
He said Kano’s vast agricultural potential would be harnessed to create employment opportunities for young people and improve food production across the state.
“I will boost farming in Kano and create opportunities for our teeming youths. We will ensure the revival of our industries to stimulate economic growth, create jobs and restore Kano’s position as the commercial hub of Northern Nigeria,” he added.
Mr Little further assured party members and residents of Kano State that his ambition was rooted in competence, inclusiveness and commitment to public service.
He expressed optimism that the ADC would emerge as a strong alternative political platform capable of winning the confidence of voters in the 2027 elections.
The development comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections gradually gather momentum across the country, with parties and aspirants beginning consultations and early preparations for key contests.
