Kimi Antonelli claimed a sensational victory at the Italian Grand Prix after Charles Leclerc’s early crash threw the race at Monza into chaos.
Pierre Gasly made the most of his pole position to move into the lead, while Lewis Hamilton and Leclerc made contact at the start, compromising the Briton’s opening lap.
Max Verstappen also faced an early challenge from Oscar Piastri but managed to keep the McLaren driver behind him.
Lando Norris was the only driver among the top five to maintain his starting position through the opening lap, but the order changed dramatically on the second lap.
George Russell and Leclerc both moved ahead of Gasly, although the Frenchman quickly reclaimed his position from the Ferrari driver.
Verstappen then capitalised on the battle to overtake Leclerc, with Piastri also getting past the Ferrari star.
Leclerc’s race, however, came to an abrupt end when he crashed out of the Italian Grand Prix while attempting to fend off Piastri.
The incident brought out the safety car and eventually resulted in the race being suspended after a red flag was issued.
Racing was scheduled to resume at 3:39pm local time.
