The Minister of the Interior, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, has revealed that private security personnel linked to the Kristo Asafo Mission were found using unapproved uniforms and weapons.
Speaking in an interview on Joy News on June 24, 2026, the minister explained that private security organizations are required to use uniforms approved by the police to help with identification and monitoring.
“We realized that they were using unapproved uniform. You know, every private security organization, the police is supposed to give you the uniform you have to use. It helps us with tracking. They were using a different uniform other than what was approved,” Muntaka said.
He added that authorities also discovered a number of firearms being used by the security personnel, with some allegedly not properly licensed.
“This cache of arms, I’m sure you saw them, were all being used by those security guys against the condition under which the guns were licensed. Some were licensed, some were not. It’s against the condition under which those licenses were issued,” he said.
The minister stated that such violations could lead to the cancellation of the security outfit’s licenses.
“… we have to terminate the licenses. Today they were in court. They were put before court. I’ve just been informed that they’ve been granted bail under some condition. And we are going to pursue that because I’m the prosecutor,” Muntaka added.
The development comes amid increased attention on security operations connected to the Kristo Asafo Mission following recent tensions linked to a leadership succession dispute.
Authorities are continuing investigations into the matter as legal proceedings continue.
