The Lagos State Government has expressed its readiness to support the team behind the forthcoming premiere of Black Market, which is expected to attract about 50,000 people to Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos Island, on September 26, 2026.
The state government disclosed this in a post on its official X account following a courtesy visit by the film’s team to the Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs Toke Benson-Awoyinka, on August 27.
The delegation was led by the film’s Producer, Nora Awolowo; Co-Producer/Executive Producer, Omowunmi Dada; and Event Producer, Damilola Osikoya. The team sought the ministry’s partnership and support for the planned premiere, which organisers hope will set a Guinness World Records record for the largest audience at a movie screening.

Speaking during the engagement, Benson-Awoyinka assured the organisers of the ministry’s support, saying the initiative aligns with the state government’s efforts to promote young talents, create opportunities for creatives and strengthen Lagos’ entertainment and creative economy.
“Lagos remains Nigeria’s leading hub for entertainment and creativity. We are committed to supporting initiatives that showcase our people’s talents, attract visitors and further strengthen the State’s position as a preferred destination for tourism, arts, culture and entertainment,” she said.
The commissioner added that supporting young creatives is consistent with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus Development Agenda, particularly its focus on innovation, youth empowerment and the development of the creative economy.
She urged the Black Market team to maintain high standards and ensure the premiere is professionally delivered in line with global best practices.
Benson-Awoyinka also advised the organisers to engage relevant state ministries, departments and agencies to secure the necessary approvals and support required for the event.
According to the state government, an event of the proposed scale could further strengthen Lagos’ reputation as a destination for major entertainment activities while creating opportunities for local creatives and contributing to the state’s tourism economy.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, who was also present at the meeting, reaffirmed the ministry’s readiness to support initiatives aimed at growing and promoting Lagos’ creative and entertainment sector.
