The Lagos State Government has provided 2,000 Cowry Cards to police personnel in the state, giving beneficiaries free access to government-owned transport services for three months.
The cards were presented by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation and Logistics, Hassan Adekoya, to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, represented by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex, Lagos, Simeon Akpanudom.
The initiative is part of the state government’s transportation support programme for police personnel.

Under the arrangement, the 2,000 beneficiaries will enjoy free transportation on designated Lagos State Government services, including the Bus Rapid Transit, Electric Boats, Blue Line and Red Line for three months.
After the free-transport period, the beneficiaries will receive a 50 per cent fare discount.
Representing the IGP, AIG Akpanudom expressed appreciation to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the initiative and his continued support for police welfare through various interventions.
He said the gesture would reduce the transportation burden on police personnel, boost their morale and strengthen collaboration between the Lagos State Government and the Nigeria Police Force.
Akpanudom said the initiative would also contribute to efforts to promote public safety, security and good governance in the state.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, said the Cowry Cards would be distributed to deserving officers fairly and transparently.
He assured that the cards would be used strictly for their intended purpose, without abuse or misuse.
Fatai also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to professionalism and accountability, saying the police would continue to deploy available resources towards ensuring a safer Lagos for residents.
