The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has commenced the sealing of shops and plazas along the Tejuosho–Ojuelegba corridor over alleged violations of waste management regulations.
The development was disclosed by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, in a post shared on his official X handle on Thursday.
According to him, the enforcement exercise followed the expiration of compliance notices earlier issued to affected business premises.
Gbadegesin said the operation, carried out by LAWMA’s Waste Investigation, Surveillance and Enforcement (WISE) team, targeted shops and plazas that failed to comply with waste management regulations and allegedly continued indiscriminate disposal of refuse on public roads.

“Following the expiration of compliance notices, LAWMA’s Waste Investigation, Surveillance and Enforcement (WISE) team has commenced the sealing of non-compliant shops and plazas along the Tejuosho–Ojuelegba corridor,” he said.
He added that the enforcement action was aimed at ensuring compliance with environmental laws and improving public sanitation across the state.
“The enforcement action targets premises that failed to comply with waste management regulations and continued the indiscriminate disposal of waste on public roads.”
Gbadegesin stressed that the authority would sustain enforcement efforts against environmental offenders, insisting that compliance with waste management laws is essential to achieving a cleaner Lagos.
“A clean Lagos requires compliance, not convenience. We will continue to enforce environmental laws to protect public health, keep our roads clean, and hold offenders accountable,” he stated.
