The United States has formally ended its naval blockade of Iran, marking a significant step toward reducing tensions between the two countries after months of military confrontation.
The announcement was made by the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), which said American forces had halted all blockade enforcement activities around Iran under the direction of US President Donald Trump.
In a statement shared on X, CENTCOM said, ‘Today, US forces lifted the blockade on all maritime traffic entering and exiting Iranian ports and coastal areas, in accordance with the President’s direction.’

The military command further clarified that commercial and civilian vessels can now move freely to and from Iranian ports.
‘American forces are not impeding the transit of vessels to or from Iranian ports on the Arabian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. All US military blockade enforcement efforts have ceased,’ the statement added.
US naval presence to continue
While the blockade has been lifted, CENTCOM confirmed that American naval forces will remain deployed in the region.
According to the command, US vessels will continue monitoring maritime activity to ensure both sides comply with the terms of the newly reached agreement and to oversee its implementation.
Initial US-Iran agreement opens door for further talks
The decision comes after Washington and Tehran reached a preliminary diplomatic accord designed to ease hostilities and create a pathway toward a long-term peace settlement.

US Vice President JD Vance confirmed that both countries have signed an initial agreement, which has triggered a 60-day negotiation period aimed at securing a broader and more permanent deal.
Vance said the framework includes several additional understandings between the two sides, including what he described as ‘gentlemen’s agreements’ related to specific elements of the negotiation process.
Technical discussions and Switzerland talks planned
As part of the next phase of diplomacy, technical-level discussions between US and Iranian officials are expected to begin this weekend.
Preparations are also underway for direct, in-person negotiations in Switzerland, where representatives from both countries are expected to continue discussions on a comprehensive peace agreement.
The preliminary arrangement also includes the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial global shipping corridor, along with other measures intended to lower regional tensions.

Despite the diplomatic breakthrough, obstacles to a lasting settlement continue to exist.
The agreement calls for an immediate end to hostilities across several fronts, but Israel has continued military operations in Lebanon and has indicated that it does not plan to withdraw its forces. The development has raised concerns that broader regional tensions could affect the ongoing peace process.

The removal of the blockade is likely to have major economic and strategic implications.
With unrestricted access restored to Iranian ports, commercial shipping is expected to resume normal operations through key maritime routes. The move is also expected to ease pressure on global energy markets, which have experienced uncertainty and disruption during the conflict.
