Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has received the report of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up to investigate the abduction of students and teachers from Esinele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
This was disclosed by the Speaker Of The Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, on his X handle on Tuesday.
TVC News Online reports that the victims were abducted on May 15, 2026, and spent 56 days in captivity before their eventual release.
The report was formally submitted to the governor at the Executive Council Chamber in Ibadan, in the presence of members of the State Executive Council.
Ogundoyin, in his social media post, commended the chairman and members of the commission for their work in investigating the incident and recommending measures to strengthen security.
He said the Oyo State House of Assembly would prioritise legislation and other interventions aimed at improving security and protecting schools and communities across the state.
“The Oyo State House of Assembly will continue to give priority to legislation and other legislative interventions that will strengthen security, protect our schools and communities, and enhance the safety of residents across the state,” he said.
The Speaker stressed the need to translate the lessons from the abduction into concrete measures to prevent a recurrence.
“The lessons from this incident must translate into stronger systems and concrete actions to prevent a recurrence,” he added.
The commission was constituted to investigate the circumstances surrounding the abduction and recommend measures to address security concerns in the affected communities.
