Man shares disappointment after being dropped as groomsman before friend’s wedding

A Nigerian man recounts how he was allegedly removed from a friend’s wedding train just days before the ceremony despite months of involvement in the preparations.

According to his account, he had actively supported the groom throughout the planning process, helping with errands, vendor arrangements, and other logistics.

He also claimed to have spent ₦80,000 on a suit specifically for the occasion because of their close friendship.

The man said he was shocked when the groom allegedly informed him a day before the wedding that he would no longer be part of the groomsmen and would instead assist with managing drinks during the event.

He speculated that the decision may have been influenced by the arrival of other friends who had recently returned from the United Kingdom.

Rather than challenge the decision, he said he chose to quietly withdraw, ending the call and deciding not to attend the wedding at all.

His words …

“I spent ₦80,000 to sew a suit for my friend’s wedding, and he replaced me with his other friends who had just returned from the UK.

We had been planning the wedding together for months. I followed him around the market to buy things, helped him book the MC and the DJ, and assisted with several other preparations.

Then, a day before the wedding, he called me and said I shouldn’t be among the groomsmen anymore. Instead, he wanted me to help look after the drinks during the event.

I had spent ₦80,000 on a suit simply because he was my good friend. And now he’s dropping me, probably because the other guys are richer.

I didn’t argue with him. I ended the call and never attended the wedding.”
