Brazil have suffered an early setback ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defender Wesley was ruled out of the tournament through injury and replaced by Atalanta midfielder Ederson.
The Brazilian Football Confederation confirmed on Sunday that Wesley would not be part of the squad after sustaining an injury during Brazil’s recent match against Egypt.
Following further medical examinations, the right-back was diagnosed with an injury to the adductor muscle in his left thigh, ending his hopes of featuring at the tournament.
Ederson drafted into squad
To fill the vacancy, Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has called up Manchester United wanted star Ederson, who is expected to join the squad in the United States on Monday.
The 26-year-old midfielder has been a key figure for Atalanta since joining the Italian club in 2022. Known for his energy and versatility in midfield, Ederson arrives as Brazil look to strengthen their options ahead of the competition.
His inclusion comes after another productive campaign in Italy, where he contributed three goals and three assists in 41 appearances across all competitions.
