A woman has been publicly driven out of her marital home in Amuma Ohafia after being accused of sleeping with her husband’s brother, in a dramatic show of collective disapproval from women across the township.
According to accounts of the incident, word of the alleged affair spread quickly through the community, prompting a large gathering of women to take matters into their own hands.
Rather than allowing the matter to be handled quietly or through customary mediation, the women mobilised as a group, converging on the accused woman’s residence to confront her directly over the allegations.
In the footage capturing the incident, the woman is seen being hooted at and chased along the road by the crowd, her baby strapped securely to her back throughout the entire ordeal as she made her way toward her family house.
The scene drew a mix of onlookers, some watching in evident shock as the procession moved through the township.
Such collective actions against alleged infidelity remain a recognised, if controversial, form of social enforcement in some communities, where women’s groups traditionally play a role in policing conduct considered a betrayal of marital and family bonds.
Critics, however, continue to question the fairness of such public confrontations, particularly given that allegations of this nature are rarely independently verified before action is taken.
It is not yet clear whether the matter will be taken up further by family or community elders, or what the accused woman’s next steps will be following the incident.
