Author and social media personality Toni Tone has said marriage should not mean giving up personal freedom, friendships or activities outside the relationship.
In a video shared online, Toni disagreed with the idea that married women should only travel with their husbands and stop going on trips with their friends.
She explained that marriage should add a partner to a person’s life, rather than force them to give up the things they enjoyed before getting married.
According to Toni, people usually have friends, hobbies and personal interests before marriage, and she questioned why these parts of their lives should suddenly disappear after they get married.
Toni, who is married, said she enjoys spending time and travelling with her husband. However, she also believes she should be free to travel with her friends or spend time with her sister.
She stressed that maintaining friendships and having experiences outside marriage does not mean a person is being unfaithful or disloyal to their partner.
Toni said the same values of honesty, loyalty and trust that are important during dating should continue in marriage, while both partners should still be allowed to have a life outside the relationship.
She also clarified that allowing married people to travel with friends does not mean encouraging them to misbehave while away from their spouses.
According to her, some people may genuinely prefer to travel only with their partners, but that should be a personal choice and not a rule that everyone must follow.
