A Nigerian lady has shared how a costly airtime recharge mistake during her 100 level almost pushed her into taking her own life before an unexpected turn of events helped her recover financially.
The lady, identified as @opes_aura on X, shared the experience while reflecting on the incident and how it eventually inspired her to start selling airtime and data.
‘I Mistakenly Recharged ₦100k Instead of ₦1k’
Recalling the incident, she said she was in her 100 level when she mistakenly recharged ₦100,000 instead of ₦1,000.
“The first time I tried to end it all was in my 100L. I mistakenly recharged #100k instead of #1k. My eyes cleared immediately and because I was in class, one coursemate told me to go to MTN office that they could reverse it,” she wrote.
She said something unexpected happened while she was heading to the MTN office.
“On my way there, my mum randomly called to tell me where she dropped the house key (mind you, I didn’t even call her,” she recalled.
‘They Couldn’t Reverse It’
When she got to the MTN office, she said she was informed that the transaction could not be reversed because a call had already been made from her SIM.
“I got to MTN, they checked my SIM and said I had already made a call, so they couldn’t reverse it. Omo, I went home depressed,” she wrote.
The experience, however, led her to look for another way to recover the money.
‘I Started Selling Airtime and Data’
The following day, she said she began selling airtime and data to fellow students and people online.
“The next day, I started selling airtime and data in class and on Facebook. Boom! Someone asked me to recharge his WiFi for #60k,” she said.
Although she noted that she mostly sold the products at discounted prices, she eventually managed to recover more than the amount she had mistakenly spent.
“Even though I was selling mostly with discounts, thank God I eventually recovered #80k+,” she added.
‘I Started Putting on My Glasses’
The experience also taught her to be more careful when entering figures during transactions.
“After that incident, I started putting on my glasses to count the ZEROs properly before putting my bank PIN,” she wrote.
