My Place In Progressives Movement Cannot Be Erased – Apata Replies Osun APC

The Media and Communications Office of Mr Peter Ogundeji, popularly known as Apata, has dismissed the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s description of his resignation from the party as “an answered prayer”, saying his place in the progressive movement cannot be erased.

NAIJAONPOINT reports that Ogundeji, a former aspirant for the Osun West Senatorial District, announced his resignation in a letter dated July 11, 2026, addressed to the APC Chairman of Ward 6, Ola, in Ejigbo Local Government Area.

In the letter, he said the decision followed deep personal reflection and extensive consultations with his political associates and supporters.

“Although leaving the party was difficult, I believe it is in the best interest of my political convictions and future aspirations,” Ogundeji wrote.

But reacting on Tuesday, the spokesperson of the party, Kola Olabisi, described the resignation of Ogundeji as “one of our answered prayers” ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

Olabisi, said membership of a political party is voluntary, and no one is coerced to stay.

“Membership of a political party is not by coercion. Anybody is free to join any party of their choice, and Apata’s exit is one of our answered prayers,” Olabisi said.

He added that the party has been praying for God to remove anyone who would be a clog to its victory at the poll.

“We have been praying that whoever will be a clog to the victory of our candidate at the poll, God should remove him, and that is what we are witnessing,” the spokesperson stated.

But Apata’s office, in a statement on Wednesday, said the former senatorial aspirant is not a political adventurer whose relevance began with the APC.

“His political journey was nurtured within the progressive family from an early age and evolved through the Alliance for Democracy, AD, the Action Congress, AC, the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, and ultimately the All Progressives Congress, APC,” the statement said.

It added that as he grew into active politics, Apata committed his resources, energy and influence to advancing the progressive cause and strengthening the party across Osun West Senatorial District.

“It is, therefore, ironic that those who once applauded his commitment, celebrated his contributions and benefited from his political goodwill now describe his principled resignation as ‘an answered prayer,” the statement said.

The office queried: “If his departure is indeed an answered prayer, the public is entitled to ask why the same party repeatedly embraced his leadership, valued his contributions and projected him as one of its leading grassroots figures.”

According to the statement, APATA left the APC peacefully, honourably and without bitterness.

The media office further said that since APATA’s resignation, he has received overwhelming goodwill from political leaders, traditional rulers, professionals, community leaders and supporters across political divides.

“Respect is not demanded. It is earned through years of principled leadership, selfless service and genuine commitment to the people,” it stated.

The statement added that APATA is currently consulting with stakeholders on building a more inclusive, just, and people-centred political future for Osun State.

“No statement can erase a lifetime of commitment. No rhetoric can diminish genuine service. In the fullness of time, history will judge every political actor, not by the press statements they issue, but by the values they uphold and the lives they touch,” it concluded.
