Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has been presented with a special award at the 2026 Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Rivers State.

VeryDarkMan, who was invited to speak at the conference, said he was attending to share his experiences rather than teach law.

“There has been a lot of debate about why I was invited to the 2026 NBA AGC. I’m not here to teach you people law; I’m here to share an experience,” he said.

During his appearance, the activist alleged that politics was at the root of insecurity in Nigeria and claimed that government institutions benefited from the security crisis.

“The root of insecurity is politics. The government benefit from this. The police benefits. The military men benefits. Since insecurity started, Generals get higher pay,” he said.

One of the Military’s representative at the conference, however, cautioned VeryDarkMan against making allegations he could not substantiate.

The activist’s appearance generated significant attention online, with videos and reports of his participation at the conference circulating widely on social media.
