The Bayelsa State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress has urged Governor Douye Diri to adopt a more inclusive style of leadership focused on the welfare of Bayelsans rather than political interests, calling on his administration to prioritise sustainable development and economic growth.

State NDC Chairman Dauprebo Ikuromo, speaking with journalists in Yenagoa, also warned the state government against attempting to lure NDC aspirants with financial inducements aimed at creating divisions within the party, insisting that no form of inducement could distract the party from its goal of taking over governance in the state.

He suggested that such resources would be better directed at addressing pressing developmental challenges in Bayelsa, including commissioned gas turbines that remain non-operational.

On reports of internal grievances within the party, Ikuromo said a comprehensive redress mechanism had been established under the leadership of Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, adding that the party’s National Executive Council would release its list of candidates for various positions within the timeframe stipulated by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The NDC chairman praised Dickson’s handling of the party’s primary elections nationwide, describing his conduct as fair, tactful and commendable.

He also highlighted the party’s deliberate inclusion of youth and women in the primaries as a reflection of its commitment to affirmative action and broader political participation.

Ikuromo called on party members and supporters across Bayelsa to remain united and focused on the shared objective of unseating what he described as a ruling party that has failed the people.
