Nigerians living abroad can now renew their passports without visiting an embassy or consulate in person, under the Nigeria Immigration Service’s Contactless Passport Application System.
The initiative allows eligible Nigerians in the diaspora to complete the passport renewal process remotely, including submitting their applications, completing biometric enrolment and tracking the progress of their passports.
Applicants begin the process online through the Nigeria Immigration Service’s official passport platform and select the contactless option where they are eligible.
Their biometric information is then submitted electronically for review as part of the application process.
Applicants who do not meet the requirements for the contactless service will be redirected to schedule a physical appointment at the appropriate Nigerian mission.
The system is designed to make passport renewal more convenient for Nigerians living outside the country while reducing the need for physical visits to embassies and consulates.
The Nigeria Immigration Service has advised applicants to use only its official platforms when applying for or tracking passports.
The service can be accessed through the official passport portal, while applicants can track their applications through the NIS tracking platform.
The development is part of efforts to modernise Nigeria’s passport administration and expand digital services for Nigerians in the diaspora.
