The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Customs Administration of the Kingdom of the Netherlands have signed a Joint Declaration to strengthen cooperation on trade facilitation, border security and the fight against transnational organised crime.
According to the National Public Relations Officer of the NCS, Abdullahi Maiwada, the declaration was signed in Brussels by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, and the Director-General of Netherlands Customs, Mrs. Nanette Van Schelven.
Maiwada said the agreement followed previous bilateral engagements between both customs administrations and is expected to enhance intelligence sharing, customs modernisation, risk management, enforcement cooperation and capacity building.
He quoted Adeniyi as saying that the partnership would strengthen international cooperation in addressing emerging trade and border management challenges while supporting secure and efficient supply chains.
Van Schelven, on her part, said both customs administrations face similar challenges in today’s interconnected trading environment and that closer collaboration would improve operational effectiveness and efforts to tackle organised cross-border crime.
Maiwada added that the declaration provides a platform for future cooperation through training, exchange of expertise, knowledge sharing and the development of a joint work plan aimed at promoting fair trade, improving border efficiency and strengthening supply chain security.
