A petition has urged the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force to investigate lawyer and academic, Dr Kajit Bagu, over alleged inciting publications.
The petitioner, Mr George Adamu Chika Maro’a, filed the petition through his counsel, A.P. Gapa, Esq., before the Kaduna State commands of both security agencies.
Maro’a described himself as an indigene of Manchok and a member of the Ne Buat Clan in Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The petition challenges an article allegedly authored by Bagu and circulated on Facebook and WhatsApp on June 15, 2026.
The publication was titled, “One Year of Uba Sani’s Sanctioned Network of Terror and Dehumanisation: Manchok 15 June 2015 to 15 June 2026.”
The petitioner alleged that the article contained false, provocative and ethnically divisive claims capable of inciting communal violence in Manchok and neighbouring communities.
He further alleged that the publication defamed the Moro’a traditional institution and senior government officials through unsubstantiated accusations.
According to the petition, Bagu described the installation of the Fifth Chief of Moro’a as an “abominable imposition of a fulanised individual.”
The petitioner argued that such remarks could inflame ethnic tensions in a community with a history of communal conflicts.
The petition also alleged that Bagu misrepresented Gov. Uba Sani’s peace message by portraying it as encouragement for violent attacks by suspected herders.
It argued that the interpretation amounted to incitement of communal hatred contrary to the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.
The petitioner further accused Bagu of criminally defaming Chief Ishaku Tagwai Sambo, the late Agwam Tagwai Sambo, Attorney-General James Kanyip and KADIRS Chairman Jerry Adams.
He maintained that the allegations against the traditional and public officials were false, malicious and capable of exposing them to danger.
The petition also cited provisions of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act, 2024, over the online circulation of the publication.
It warned that failure to investigate the matter could heighten communal tensions in Manchok and other parts of Kaduna State.
The petitioner requested a discreet investigation, questioning of the respondent and prosecution under relevant laws, if found culpable.
Efforts to obtain Bagu’s reaction were unsuccessful as of press time.
The Kaduna State Command of the DSS had yet to issue an official response to the petition. (NAN)(www.nannew.ng)
