‘No compromise’: Why Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu is against US and Iran peace deal

The peace deal between the United States and Iran has raised hopes of stability in West Asia and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. However, Israel has strongly opposed the agreement, with several leaders saying the deal does not address the country’s security concerns and will not stop its military operations in the region.

Israeli Leaders Reject US-Iran Agreement

Several members of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition have openly criticised the agreement announced by US President Donald Trump.

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said Israel was not bound by the deal and would continue to act independently to protect its interests.

“Trump’s agreement does not bind us. Israel is an independent and sovereign nation,” Ben-Gvir wrote on X.

He added that Israel would not compromise on its security and insisted that Hezbollah must be dismantled.

Defence Minister Says Israel Will Continue Military Operations

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said the country would continue its military campaign and would not withdraw from Lebanon, Syria, and the Gaza Strip.

Katz said maintaining security zones in these areas was one of the biggest achievements of the Israeli military and that Israel would respond with “full force” if Iran attacked the country.

Concerns Over Iran’s Nuclear Programme

According to reports, one of Israel’s biggest concerns is that the agreement does not fully address Iran’s nuclear programme and uranium enrichment activities.

Israeli officials fear that the deal could allow Tehran to continue developing its nuclear capabilities while also receiving sanctions relief and access to frozen assets.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not yet commented on the latest agreement, but he has repeatedly said that Israel’s goal is to ensure that Iran never acquires nuclear weapons.
