Northwest University Kano has announced that the National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the establishment of additional academic programmes following a successful resource assessment and verification exercise.
SolaceBase reports that the announcement was made in a statement signed by Abubakar Ibrahim, Head of the Public Relations Unit of the university, on Friday.
The statement said the approval was conveyed in an official letter dated February 26, 2026, with reference number NUC/AP/S37/VOL.1/25, and addressed to the Vice-Chancellor.
It explained that the Commission approved the programmes to run in full-time mode at the university’s main campus, beginning from the 2026/2027 academic session.
According to the statement, the newly approved undergraduate programmes include B.Sc Physics with Electronics, B.Sc Industrial Physics, B.Sc Broadcasting, B.Sc Development and Communication Studies, B.Sc Information and Media Studies, B.Sc Journalism and Media Studies, and B.Sc Applied Geophysics.
It added that the postgraduate programmes approved are M.Ed Philosophy of Education and Ph.D Philosophy of Education.

The statement noted that the approval followed what it described as a rigorous evaluation by a panel of experts, who assessed both human and material resources available for the take-off of the programmes.
According to the statement, the Vice-Chancellor, Amina Salihi Bayero, described the development as a major milestone for the institution.
She said, “This represents one of the significant achievements recorded within my few months in office,” adding that it reflects her administration’s commitment to academic expansion, innovation, and alignment with global best practices.
Bayero further assured that the university would continue to strengthen its human and material resources to sustain the quality and growth of the programmes, noting that the approval underscores the institution’s steady progress and dedication to expanding opportunities for prospective students.
