The Nigerian Railway Corporation has condemned the rising attacks on train operations along the Abuja–Kaduna rail corridor, describing them as dangerous and disruptive.
The corporation’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Lagos.
He said the latest incident occurred around kilometre 177 on the route, where unidentified individuals reportedly gathered near the track and threw stones at a moving train, damaging the windscreen of the leading locomotive.
Unyimadu noted that similar attacks have been recorded in recent weeks in several locations, including Gidan Busa/Sarki Gora Village in Kakau District, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, as well as other points along the corridor.
According to him, more than six such incidents have been reported within a short period, posing serious risks to passengers, railway personnel, and infrastructure.
He warned that the persistent attacks amount to acts of economic sabotage and threaten the significant investments made by the Federal Government in the railway sector.
Despite the situation, the NRC said train services have continued under heightened safety measures and strict operational vigilance, with railway staff maintaining professionalism to ensure passenger safety.
The corporation also commended security agencies for their ongoing efforts in protecting railway assets and passengers, noting that collaboration is ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible.
Unyimadu added that the NRC is working with security operatives, community leaders, and other stakeholders to strengthen surveillance along the corridor.
He appealed to residents living near railway lines to support efforts to safeguard infrastructure by reporting suspicious activities and discouraging vandalism.
The NRC warned that continued attacks could disrupt service delivery if not urgently addressed, while reaffirming its commitment to safe, secure, and efficient rail transport across the country.
