The 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, alongside his Labour Party (LP) counterpart, Peter Obi, have moved to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Their defection comes against the backdrop of the protracted internal crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which had fuelled speculations about their next political steps.
SolaceBase reports that both leaders formalised their entry into the NDC during a strategic meeting held at the Abuja residence of the party’s National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson.

The engagement brought them face-to-face with top figures of the party in what insiders described as part of broader consultations aimed at strengthening the platform.
Kwankwaso and Obi were received at about 5:14 p.m., after which deliberations commenced with Dickson and other senior stakeholders.
Discussions reportedly focused on aligning visions, party structure, and future political direction.
The talks later continued behind closed doors, lasting well over an hour before concluding around 6:45 p.m.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, Kwankwaso appealed to his supporters nationwide to identify with the NDC, stressing the need for collective effort in building the party.

He urged Nigerians to embrace the platform, presenting it as a viable political alternative.
Obi, in his remarks, cautioned party faithful against taking internal disagreements to court, instead advocating dialogue and internal reconciliation processes as the best way to sustain unity within the party.
Observers say the entry of both men is a strategic gain for the NDC, given their wide appeal and established grassroots structures across various parts of the country, a development that could influence emerging political alignments ahead of future elections.
