Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in Ondo State have arrested a 23-year-old man, Sodiq Yahaya, over the alleged theft of a motorcycle in the Shasha area of Akure North Local Government Area.
According to The Nation, the NSCDC spokesman, Daniel Aidamenbor, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued on Friday in Akure.
Aidamenbor said Yahaya was arrested on September 2, 2026, following a tip-off from a resident who alerted the Corps to a motorcycle allegedly abandoned under suspicious circumstances on a premises along the Agbogbo axis.
He said operatives attached to the Akure South Divisional Office responded to the information and placed the motorcycle under surveillance.
“The suspect was subsequently arrested at about 10:30 a.m. while allegedly attempting to move the motorcycle to another location,” he said.
He said a preliminary investigation showed that Yahaya allegedly confessed to stealing the motorcycle from Shasha Market, opposite the AA Rano Filling Station.
“The investigation, however, took a broader turn after the suspect allegedly mentioned an individual identified only as “Magamu” as a possible receiver of stolen motorcycles,” Aidamenbor added.

He said Yahaya could not provide enough information to immediately establish the identity or whereabouts of the alleged receiver.
Aidamenbor said the development raised concerns about a possible network involved in stealing, receiving, and reselling motorcycles in the area.
“The stolen motorcycle was subsequently traced to its owner, identified as Mustapha Abdullah, who was reportedly out of the state when the incident occurred.”
The NSCDC said it was investigating to identify other persons who may be connected to the alleged operation and to establish their respective roles.
Meanwhile, the State Commandant, Oluyemi Joshua Ibiloye, has commended the resident whose vigilance and prompt report led to the recovery of the motorcycle and the arrest of the suspect.
Ibiloye urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and activities to the Corps and other security agencies.
He said timely information from members of the public remained critical to preventing and detecting crime.
The Commandant also assured residents that the Corps would intensify its operations to protect lives and property and to disrupt criminal networks operating across the state.
