A 43-year-old non-teaching staff member of a public primary school in Ilorin, Amuda Olubukola, has been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kwara State Command, for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old pupil.
NewsWatch Online gathered that the suspect allegedly transformed his school office into a crime scene, subjecting the Primary 4 pupil to repeated sexual abuse until a resulting pregnancy exposed the illicit acts.
Confirming the development in a statement issued on Friday, the NSCDC spokesperson, Ayoola Micheal, disclosed that the operative’s Gender Unit swung into action immediately after receiving a formal complaint.
He said, “The arrest followed a complaint received by the Gender Unit of the Command, which triggered an immediate investigation into the disturbing allegation.”
Detailing how the suspect allegedly manipulated and silenced the minor, the CDPRO explained that tactical coercion and physical restraint were used during the assaults.
“The victim further alleged that the suspect repeatedly promised to marry her before allegedly subjecting her to the abuse. During the incidents, he covered her mouth to prevent her from raising an alarm,” he said.
According to the corps, the pattern of abuse finally collapsed when physical changes in the 14-year-old girl prompted her mother to seek help from law enforcement.
“The case came to light after the victim’s mother reported that her daughter had allegedly become pregnant as a result of the abuse,” Michael maintained.
Upon being cornered by investigators, Olubukola reportedly cracked under questioning and confessed to the encounters, though he deflected personal accountability.
“The suspect admitted to the offence during interrogation. He was attempting to attribute his actions to ‘the work of the devil’,” he further revealed.
Condemning the incident, State Commandant of the NSCDC, Abbas Mohammed, expressed deep fury over the breach of trust, tagging the act as an intolerable violation of childhood dignity.
“Schools are meant to nurture, protect and inspire children, not expose them to abuse,” he declared.
“Any individual who preys on the innocence of a child, particularly within the school environment, has committed a grave offense against the society and will be made to face the full weight of the law,” the NSCDC boss warned.
He assured members of the public that the file on the case would not be swept under the carpet, confirming that judicial proceedings are imminent.
“Investigation is nearing completion. The suspect will be arraigned in court as soon as the necessary legal processes are concluded,” he stated.
