The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has successfully concluded the service year of the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream II Corps Members in Osun State, with a low-key passing-out exercise held across the 30 Local Government Areas and Area Office of the State on Thursday.
A total of 2,132 Corps Members were awarded their Certificates of National Service after successfully completing the mandatory one-year national service.
However, the service year of 12 Corps Members was extended for various infractions, while 27 others were declared absconders in accordance with the provisions of the NYSC Byelaws.
The Osun State Coordinator, Mr Ekeng Kubiangha, monitored the exercise alongside the Deputy Director, Corps Inspection and Monitoring, Mrs Adesina Omoboade; Assistant Director, Community Development Service, Mr Christopher Oyedokun; Assistant Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Mrs Kehinde Salawu; and Monitoring Officer from the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters, Mr Peter Okpanachi, during visits to Ife North, Ife Central, Ife East and Ife East Area Office.
Addressing the outgoing Corps Members, Kubiangha congratulated them on the successful completion of their service year and thanked God for preserving their lives throughout the period of national service. He commended them for their discipline, resilience and contributions to the development of their host communities, noting that their successful completion of service was worthy of celebration and gratitude.
The State Coordinator reminded the Corps Members that they were proceeding on a 21-day terminal leave and cautioned them against wearing the NYSC uniform after the expiration of their service year. He also emphasised the importance of safeguarding their Certificates of National Service, advising them to carefully proofread all entries on the certificates and report any discrepancies before laminating the documents.
Kubiangha clarified that the document issued to them was a Certificate of National Service and not a discharge certificate, stressing that Corps Members were not prisoners but young Nigerians who had faithfully rendered service to their fatherland. He further reminded them that the NYSC would no longer supervise or ‘police’ their activities, urging them to embrace personal responsibility as they transition into a new phase of life.
Encouraging the Corps Members to remain focused and purposeful, Kubiangha described the NYSC Scheme as a springboard for future success. He advised them to set clear goals, remain optimistic, think creatively and take deliberate steps towards self-development and economic independence. According to him, possessing a certificate alone is insufficient unless it is backed by determination, innovation and a commitment to excellence.
He also urged the outgoing Corps Members to be mindful of their conduct and public utterances, particularly in view of the political activities leading up to the forthcoming elections in the State. He warned them against partisan involvement and cautioned them to refrain from making statements capable of exposing them to danger, stressing the need to remain security-conscious and law-abiding citizens.
As part of the passing-out activities, the State Coordinator presented Certificates of National Service to eligible Corps Members and Certificates of Commendation to outstanding Corps Liaison Officers in recognition of their exemplary leadership and service during the service year.
Kubiangha expressed appreciation to the Corps Members for their commitment to nation-building and wished them success in their future endeavours. He urged them to continue upholding the values of discipline, patriotism, integrity and selfless service imbibed during their participation in the NYSC Scheme.
