Gov. Monday Okpebholo of Edo has commended the people and leaders of Ewu, Esan Central Local Government Area of the state for maintaining peace and order despite the lingering kingship in the community.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the dispute involved the traditional ruler, Razak Ojeifo, and Prince Jafaru Ojeifo.
Okpebholo, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr Musa Yakubu, gave the commendation on Tuesday, when he received a delegation of leaders from Ewu on a courtesy visit to the Government House in Benin.
He praised the maturity, restraint and peaceful disposition demonstrated by the people of Ewu throughout the period of the dispute.
He noted that the peaceful conduct of the community had helped prevent a breakdown of law and order and created an atmosphere conducive to dialogue.
He assured the delegation that the governor remained committed to ensuring justice, fairness and lasting peace in all communities across Edo.
He explained that the governor valued the concerns raised by the Ewu leaders and would give them the attention they deserved.
Yakubu, who listened to the grievances and requests presented by the delegation, assured them that all issues raised during the visit would be communicated directly to the governor.
“I want to assure you that your concerns have been noted and will be conveyed to the governor.
“You will receive responses as soon as possible. Okpebholo is committed to peace, development and the well-being of every community in the state,”he said.
Earlier, the Secretary of the Ewu Development Association, Prof. Bartholomew Akagbosu, expressed appreciation to Okpebholo for the various developmental projects being executed in Ewu and other parts of Esan land.
Akagbosu praised the governor’s commitment to infrastructure development and welfare of the people, noting that residents have continued to benefit from the administration’s people-oriented policies. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
