The Super Falcons of Nigeria produced another flawless performance, beating Senegal 3-0 in an international friendly at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Monday, maintaining their strong form ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Nottingham Forest forward Joy Omewa led the charge with a brace, while Asisat Oshoala added a late third goal as Nigeria overpowered the Teranga Lionesses after a tight first half.
The fixture marked the second meeting between both sides in four days, with Nigeria also winning the previous encounter 2-1 at the same venue.
Second-half surge breaks Senegal resistance
Despite controlling possession for long spells in the opening half, Nigeria were unable to convert their dominance into goals before the break.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade and midfielder Toni Payne orchestrated play from midfield, creating several chances, but Senegal remained compact defensively to frustrate the Super Falcons.
The breakthrough arrived four minutes after the restart when Omewa rose highest to meet a well-delivered cross from Shukurat Oladipo, heading home to give Nigeria the lead.
Momentum shifted decisively in Nigeria’s favour soon after, with Omewa striking again in the 52nd minute.
She capitalised on a defensive error, dispossessed a Senegal defender and finished clinically to double the advantage.
Oshoala seals emphatic victory
Omewa was later substituted for veteran forward Asisat Oshoala, who wasted no time making an impact.
In the 66th minute, Ajibade made a driving run into the box before delivering a precise pass across goal, allowing Oshoala to tap in from close range for Nigeria’s third.
The result extends Nigeria’s unbeaten record against Senegal, with four wins and one draw in five meetings between both teams.
It also strengthens the record of head coach Justine Madugu, who has now recorded 12 wins, three draws and two defeats in 17 matches since taking charge.
Madugu’s only losses have come in friendly fixtures against Cameroon and France. He guided Nigeria to their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title last year and will now shift focus to defending the crown in Morocco next month.
