Orji Uzor Kalu, a current senator and former governor of Abia State, has denied charges that the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, meddled in Nigeria’s election process, calling them baseless.
During a media briefing in Abuja on Monday, April 21, 2026, Kalu stated that there is no solid proof to back up claims that INEC is being controlled or manipulated by outside parties.
“INEC is doing its job within the limits of the law,” Sen. Uzo Kalu stated in his statement. People ought to refrain from making unfounded allegations of meddling in the absence of evidence.
The senator, who represents the Abia North Senatorial District, emphasized that Nigeria’s democracy can only prosper if institutions are free to operate without needless political pressure or public mistrust stoked by rumors.
Additionally, Kalu asked stakeholders and political actors to concentrate on enhancing the voting system through positive interaction rather than disseminating stories that can erode public trust.
“If there are concerns, they should be addressed through proper legal and institutional channels, not through unverified public accusations,” he continued.
