Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, has donated ₦50,000 each to the 25 rescued schoolchildren from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The financial support came as the children began reuniting with their families after spending 56 harrowing days in the custody of their abductors.
NAIJAONPOINT reports that the rescued pupils and teachers were formally handed over by the military to the Oyo State Government after security operatives successfully rescued them from their kidnappers. Governor Seyi Makinde subsequently assumed responsibility for their welfare, directing that they receive medical attention, psychological support and other necessary care before returning to their families.
In a video obtained by NAIJAONPOINT, Dare announced the donation while addressing the rescued children and their parents shortly before they departed for their homes.
The presidential aide said each of the 25 pupils cleared to leave the hospital would receive ₦50,000 to support their immediate needs as they begin rebuilding their lives after the traumatic experience.
During the brief ceremony, a minute’s silence was observed in honour of those who lost their lives during the period of the abduction.
Dare also disclosed that the same gesture would be extended to other rescued victims who were yet to be discharged, assuring that they too would receive the financial support once they were certified fit to return home.
Recall the abduction that occurred in Oriire Local Government Area, which sparked widespread condemnation across the country and heightened concerns over the safety of schools and rural communities.
The victims regained their freedom after spending 56 days in captivity following coordinated operations by security agencies, including the military, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the police.
Since their rescue, government authorities have maintained that the victims will continue to receive medical care, counselling and other forms of support to aid their full recovery.
