The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has disclosed that Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz earns a monthly salary of $80,000.
His comments come after reports claimed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) was paying the Portuguese coach $100,000 per month.
The reports led to calls from sports journalists and members of the public for the government and the GFA to disclose the coach’s actual salary in the interest of transparency.
Speaking after Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, the minister dismissed the speculation.
“Carlos Queiroz earns $80,000 a month and not $100,000 as speculated,” he said.
Kofi Adams also said the late dismissal of former Black Stars coach Otto Addo affected the team’s preparations for the World Cup.
He explained that if the decision had been his alone, he would have relieved Otto Addo of his duties much earlier during the World Cup qualifiers to give the new coach more time to prepare the team.
“If the decision were mine alone, I would have sacked Otto Addo much earlier during the qualifiers,” he said, as reported by TV3.
The Black Stars were knocked out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the Round of 32 after a 1-0 defeat to Colombia.
Despite the early exit, reports indicate that the GFA is expected to extend Carlos Queiroz’s contract to lead Ghana’s campaign to qualify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
