President Bola Tinubu has sent a high-powered delegation to Oriire Local Government Area in Oyo State following the abduction of over 25 school children and about seven teachers by gunmen.
The delegation, which arrived in the state on Sunday, May 31, 2026, is led by Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Olusegun Dada, confirmed the development in a post on X, accompanied by video footage of the team’s arrival.
“A presidential delegation led by Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila and NSA Nuhu Ribadu arrived in Oyo State earlier this afternoon,” Dada wrote.
He added that the visit follows an earlier intervention ordered by President Tinubu, which included a visit by the Inspector-General of Police and the commencement of rescue operations by the Nigerian military.
On May 15, armed hoodlums on motorcycles attacked Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, Community Grammar School, and L.A. Primary School in Esiele, all within Oriire Local Government Area.
An assistant headmaster at Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele, Joel Adesiyan, was killed during the assault. A motorcyclist was also shot dead by the gunmen after he resisted attempts to seize his motorcycle.
Days later, the abductors beheaded a teacher, Michael Oyedokun, and circulated a graphic video of the killing on social media.
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has assured residents of his administration’s commitment to securing the safe rescue of the abducted teachers and school children.
